About us

What does "On location" mean?
This simply means that we will come to a location of your choice to do the recording.  We don't have a particular recording studio that we work out of.  (Quite often, a recording studio may not be the most suitable environment for your project.  This often results in the need to "create a reality", rather than "capture the reality" - see above.)  If you have access to a space that you are comfortable performing in, then we should use it.  If you need advice on choosing a location, please contact us.  Likewise, if your project does require the use of a studio, we can recommend some excellent ones.

What equipment do you use?
Of course, we tailor the equipment to best suit the needs of each situation.  But for those of you who really want to know, here is a short list of our current favorite gear:
* Microphones: DPA 4006, Sennheiser MKH20 & MKH40, Schoeps MK4 & MK2H, Neumann U87
* Millennia HV3 microphone preamplifiers
* PrismSound Titan interface
* Tascam DA3000 High Definition Audio Recorder
* Avid ProTools
* Presonus Monitor Station V2
* Tannoy Reveal 802 Studio Monitors
* Sony V6 headphones* PS Audio PowerPlant P3

Which is better, analog or digital?
Ah, the age-old question...  For acoustic recording, we feel that the low noise, extended frequency response and editing flexibility of digital audio technology make it the superior choice.  However, analog technology still has benefits and might be the better choice for your project.  Is so, we can make arrangements for that.   The question isn't which format is better - the question is which format is better-suited for what you are trying to achieve.  We can help you with that.

Can you send me some MP3s of your work?
No!  Our issue with MP3s (and any other data-compressed format) is that, in order to get the smaller file size, some audio data has to be discarded.  In our opinion, ALL the data in a recording is important!  So, if you want to hear some examples of our work, just contact us and we'll be happy to send you a CD or links to high resolution files - with ALL the audio data intact!!
